Townbox

UI design for Townbox, a casual town-building game currently in development.

Townbox™ is an independant town-building sandbox currently in development, created by UK-based studio VideoDojo Games. The game is set inside a simulated world, where the player can create and develop small towns, one building at a time, and let their creativity speak. At any time, they can also switch to a different perspective in which they can freely roam around the town they’ve built, and interact with the quirky residents that inhabit it.

My role in the Townbox™ team primarily consists in designing the game’s user interface. I worked closely with studio founder and creative director Dom to establish the interface’s look and feel, before creating mockups and speccing individual elements in Figma.

The design language I came up with closely matches the game’s peaceful and welcoming nature, with soft shapes and colors conveying a relaxing, gentle mood, while liberal usage of animated interactions and patterns adds a layer of playfulness to every menu or screen the player interacts with.

I also had a hand in translating the designs into working components within the Godot Engine, which could then get hooked up into the game’s logic by lead developer Sam Auber.

Townbox™ is still in development, but you can already wishlist it on Steam to show your interest in the game!
